Entrepreneurs 'on the up' in the UK
More and more businesses being registered in the UK are launched by entrepreneurs since the start of the year, the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has revealed. There has been a net gain of 48,000 businesses since the start of the year, with 99.9% of said businesses being small to medium enterprises.
Business and Enterprise Minister Mark Prisk welcomed the increase, noting that private enterprises will play a major role in hauling Britain out of the recession and creating the growth needed for economic recovery.
"This was a difficult period, and these figures show the resilience of British business," said Mr Prisk, who claimed that the coalition will do all it can to create the "right environment for these businesses to now expand and grow". Private sector enterprises will create growth in our economy so it is encouraging to see that the number of businesses at the start of 2010 had increased," he added.
That view was echoed earlier this month by British Chambers of Commerce Chief Economist David Kern, who argued that job creation is something the government needs to continue to help businesses with, through the introduction of "growth-enhancing policies".
