It is the final stage of the court procedure. The judgment will detail the amount of the liability which must be settled by the debtor. It will also set out any payment schedule that the debtor must adhere to. The act of entering judgment is carried out by the court and it creates a formal record of the decision that is reached and the outcome.
It is possible to request that the court enter judgment if an adequate response is not received from the debtor. This process begins with the completion and submission of a Request for Judgment form which a solicitor is able to carry out. After this has been done the court will assess the request and any response provided by the debtor before issuing a Judgment.
Once judgment is entered the defendant is under a legal order to meet the terms specified by the court. At this stage if the debtor does not make payment as ordered, then the next step to take is to enforce the debt.

An individual may apply to prevent payment after judgment if they are unable to pay and will need to disclose full financial status that demonstrates they are unable to pay the amount owed.
Once a judgement is paid, it is noted on the register. The CCJ will remain on the file for 6 years, but it will be noted that it was paid

There are a number of ways to collect monies after obtaining judgement. These include taking control of goods, attachment of earnings order, a statutory demand and either a bankruptcy petition or a winding up petition.
